Iaia is ruled by an elite pantheon of gods. Becoming a god is seen as the highest achievement any individual can obtain. In order to become a god, a person must participate in the God Games and prove, without a doubt, they have the strength to become a god. These individuals are called God Gladiators.
Gods may have a higher status than one another, which can be achieved by ruling over a greater region than another god, participating in the God Games, having a large amount of followers, etc. One thing remains the same throughout every god; they always submit to the pinnacle of gods, the Celestials.
Every god has a dominion over a concept. For example, a god of fireworks, a god of charity, a god of foxes, etc. Most gods typically also rule a civilization as a monarchy, but some choose to not be attached to a civilization. When someone becomes a god, they take the position of another god. This means there are a limited amount of spots available to be a god.
Upon a person's ascension to godhood, they are receive the divine power of the god they defeated bestowed upon them by the Sun God. The possessions the previous god once had, such as a kingdom or temple, will also go to the winner. However, temples and kingdoms can be revoked should the god fail to appease the Celestials. Their victory also serves as a proof of strength, allowing the people to trust within a newfound god.
God Games
Each year, the God Games are hosted across all of Iaia celebrating the battle to become a god. The tournament is held in a colosseum, and it is the most important event every year. To even get the chance to be seated in the colosseum is a magic trick in itself. Since the gods themselves attend in person, it is considered a high-class event.
After the strongest God Gladiators pass the preliminary trials before the God Games, they are allowed to compete in the official games at a later date. The God Games consist of three rounds, each meant to root out the best of the best.

Final Round
The last round, and the most exciting, pits gods against the final 100 competitors. 10 gods take on 10 competitors one by one through duels. Should the slight chance of a the gladiators winning the duel come true, the death of the god follows soon after. Shortly following this, the winner will be granted access to godhood. However, if the god is successful, they are allowed to keep their place as a god.
The best way to compare it is like having someone fight a dragon with a stick. Though it is possible to take the dragon down, only the pinnacle of life itself will be able to do so. Those who are truly desperate are the only ones who would ever sign themselves up to do such a thing.
It should be noted that the gods have unimaginable power, much further than any mortal could possibly possess. Because the chance of any gladiator succeeding is so slim, the participating gods also compete against each other to see how quickly they can take out all 10 opponents. The god who takes out all 10 opponents the quickest will be much more respected by society, and in turn have more power over others. Most of the audience tends to root for a specific god they individually support.
Because gods possess the most formidable abilities in all of Iaia, physical strength and talent will never be enough to conquer a god. In order to become a god, a gladiator must have a strong mind to prevail.

- In the process of mortals becoming gods, the absurd amount of power channeled into the mortal can often change their physical features.
- Some gods look forward to the God Games to increase their social standing, but some fear losing the position they worked so hard for.
- "God" is a neutral term and is not limited to one gender.
