Description
Iaia is the name of the solar system in Pseudocide, which encompasses all 8 planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, etc.) including other minor objects. All major planets are inhabited by various species with many different appearances. The solar system is upheld by a system of magic, imbued in the very foundations of the world. Within Iaia, there are thousands of species with none being the dominant species of Iaia. The entire society is ruled by Gods.
The building blocks of life on Iaia come in 8 elements. Even though there are only 8 elements, magic and elements are closely interlinked. Magic does not follow an elemental system, but certain spells do rely on understanding the elements. The elements are as follows: lava, fire, electricity, rock, ice, water, air, and crystal.
The architecture of most of Iaia tends to be around the medieval age, save for a few cities that are more/less technologically advanced. T he majority of the buildings are made out of wood or stone. Though, it depends heavily on the location's style.
Technology
Since Iaia is set to be around a medieval and steampunk era, technology such as cars, planes, screen devices, et cetera, do not exist. However, there are modern technology equivalents in Iaia, with a fantasy spin. Newer technology utilizes a fusion between science and magic, and typically have a brass finish.
Transport
Airships are used for travel between cities, countries, and even continents. Like most technology in Iaia, the airships are powered by a combination of mechanical engineering and magic. Airships are the most common form of travel seen. However, it is not very common for people to use airships to travel within the same city.
Occasionally, dragons have jobs to allow people to ride their backs as a quick mode of transport. However, dragons aren't usually able to carry heavy cargo on their backs. Horse-drawn carriages are typically better at carrying heavier cargo for short distances. Though of course, the old-fashioned walking is just as valuable for city travel.
For interplanetary travel, teleportation devices called Star Gates are used. Though Star Gates were created before the Star God existed, it was opened for public use after the Star God was born. Star Gates function as a rather large platform engraved with star-imagery. When used, Star Gates will take anything on the platform to one of the many travel hubs on an adrift island in space.
Travel hubs connect all 8 planets of Iaia, and function similarly to airports. The hubs are contained in a glass dome on a floating island orbiting a nearby planet. From there, a person can travel to any of the other Star Gates in Iaia. While technically Star Gates can be used to travel long distances on the same planet, typically airships are easier to access than Star Gates.
Communication and Entertainment
Modern technology, such as TVs, phones, and computers do not exist the same way they do in our reality. Crystal Tomes, or just referred to as Tomes occasionally, utilize crystals instead of electric screens, whose magical properties are manipulated by scientific technology. Usually, Crystal Tomes come in the shapes of books, for example laptops/computers, phones, and tablets. Some Crystal Tomes are not shaped like books, Tomes that function like TVs are closer to the bulkier CRT TVs.
Crystal Tomes are usually very over-the-top in design, with intricate design and brass plating. Tomes are very customizable too, despite their complex appearance. Throughout Iaia, Tome cases are quite common, some even being blank to allow the user to customize it themselves. All Crystal Tomes are connected to a network across all of Iaia, equivalent to the real world's internet.
Customs
Though all of the planets of Iaia are at different places in their orbit, Iaia follows one calendar and a 24-hour clock for easier communication. Each planet may have their own individual calendars alongside the solar-system-wide calendar, but it is not used as often.
In Iaia, it is also common for teenagers to not attend school. School is typically only required until around grade 6, and grades 7-12 are optional. In primary school settings, most kids are taught to self-educate as to not require secondary education. If teenagers do not attend secondary school, they are expected to pick up skills by being around other people or being loosely homeschooled by adults.
However, in order to get more skill-based jobs, individuals are required to attend a college for a specific field. It is worth noting that primary and secondary education are not required to be accepted into colleges, but instead passing mandated exams are required. Those who do attend grades 7-12 are usually from middle or upper-class families. Most secondary schools tend to be in wealthier regions.
Usually teenagers out of school will spend their time doing extracurriculars, going to the library, exploring their own/other cities, working a job, attending social gatherings for teenagers, and going to festivals. Festivals are actually quite common in Iaia!
...yes this is a bullshit excuse for me not wanting to write all my teenage characters going to school
History
Work in progress! ^^
