Description
The Undead, or sometimes referred to as Mummies, are a species native to Earth. They are from the Tycho Desert, which is a large desert landmass in the Pacific Ocean. The Undead have deep purple skin and are covered in gauze on their skin. Their hair is also made of the same wrappings used to cover their skin. The amount of gauze the Undead wear is based on personal preference.
Because of the Tycho Desert's extreme heats compared to the rest of Earth, the Undead's cities within the desert tend to be nocturnal. This nocturnal behavior led the Undead to be devoted worshippers of the Moon God. The kind and gentle Moon God protected them from the burning sunlight. The gauze that the Undead wear are used to shield them from the sunlight during the day. However, because Tycho Desert cities are nocturnal, there aren't really too many reasons for most Mummies to wear the gauze properly.
In Mummy culture, the Undead encourage their kin to be creative and individualistic. This is a result of them worshipping the Moon God, who is said to invoke creativity and inspiration into those who worship the god. More than most cultures in Iaia, the creative arts are valued very deeply. Children are encouraged to take part in creative arts more than anything else.
The Undead are also known to be very obsessed with the notion of creating something new. This can lead to some unethical experiments done to gain attention for being innovative. There have been various instances of involuntary experiments, animal experimentation, questionable resource obtainment, and more cases that raise ethical concerns.
Abilities
- Mummies are able to cast spells. Because the Undead are made of pure magic, they are slightly more gifted than most species in Iaia. However, magic still takes a lot of practice in order to learn.
- After living in the Tycho Desert for so long, the Undead have an improved heat resistance.
- However, they are not immune to the hottest things like fire or lava.
- The Undead can also see better in the dark, which is why their eyes are green!
History
Despite being called "The Undead", most of them are not actually dead. Their ancestors were the ones who were brought back from death hundreds of thousands of years ago. Mummies branch off from another species, whom had succumbed to the cruel heat of the Tycho Desert. A powerful source from the past had granted these poor souls a second chance at life, leading them to become a new species.
After being revived, the Undead were able to act normally exactly where they had left off from their lives. Their bodies had changed but their souls had not. Following the revival, the Undead had descendants. Those descendants are imbued with the same life-giving magic that their ancestors were, despite not actually dying.
Since their ancestors’ unfortunate smoldering death, many of the Undead resented the sun. This hatred for the Sun God has been lost to time, but the newfound respect for the Moon God has only prospered since. Not all Mummies worship the moon to the same level. Some don’t care at all, others may dedicate their entire existence to the Moon God. Yet, it remains fact that the moon was a beacon of hope when the harsh sun did not give them grace in eons past.
