Description
Sirens are an aquatic species that have both Neptunian and Uranian variants. Their appearances take on many fish-like qualities, including fins and a tail. Neptunian Sirens are purple, whereas Uranian Sirens are a deep blue. Though either way, Sirens are bright creatures. Both groups tend to live in shallow waters and typically are slightly larger than the average mortal.
Similar to the water elementals, Sirens are an all-female species. Though of course, transitioning to other genders is possible. Sirens also reproduce asexually. Various kinds of love are heavily valued by Sirens. Platonic, romantic, familial, anything that brings people together.
At the time Sirens formed as a species, the Sun God was the only Celestial, and much fewer gods had roamed the planets of Iaia. Their strength is a great source of pride for Sirens, and do not want the protection of a god when they are perfectly capable of protecting their own people.
Abilities
- The Sirens have many offensive capabilities, including claws and sharp teeth for combat.
- Over the years, Sirens have developed beautiful voices for singing
- These singing voices do not have any magical powers, contrary to popular belief
- Sirens are also shapeshifters. They can transform into anyone that somebody loves
- However, they have to be within a certain distance of whoever's love they are using to shapeshift.
- There is also a time limit for how long the form can be held. The longer a Siren takes a form, the more it will strain their body and at some point become physically painful.
- Because they are semi-aquatic creatures, they can breathe underwater as well as on land.
- By extension they are adept at swimming
- Sirens can eat raw foods without getting sick. They have very strong digestive systems!
- The flesh Sirens are made of are very toxic. Consuming Siren flesh will cause a person to violently puke and invoke dehydration
- Siren flesh is not lethal, but the pain can last for over 24 hours
History
Sirens were part of the earlier wave of species to appear in Iaia, some time after the elementals. Some people say that the fish who lived in the oceans of Uranus were inspired by water elementals beautiful forms, leading them to become the Sirens we know today. Though, there is no proof for this theory other than speculation and folk tale.
As mentioned previously, Sirens had became a species at a time where not nearly as many gods had existed as they do today. The Sun God was also the only Celestial at the time. The Siren's strived to be strong as a community without relying on a god to protect them. Since then, primarily Siren civilizations have remained godless.
Like many early intelligent species in Iaia, Sirens have especially been framed as primal creatures that are brutes. Some (not all) of the relatively newer species of Iaia adopted this idea that species who had formed earlier were inferior to them. Even though in the more recent years this notion has faded a lot, there are still mortals who believe this gross idea. To be honest, I AM TIRED OF REWRITING THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
